How Can Anxiety Be Seen Within Our Bodies?
1. Increased Heart Rate
When feeling anxiety, it is common for your body’s flight or fight response to be activated through the releasing of stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones are released from the adrenal glands and can be what leads to an increase in heart rate or heart palpitations.
2. Rapid Breathing / Shortness of Breath
As the feeling of anxiety can lead to activating your fight-or-flight response within your body, shortness of breath or having trouble breathing is common due to the flood of adrenaline within your body. When the body has an overflow of adrenaline, your muscles can become tense, in this case your lungs, with your lungs becoming tense, a more inconsistent amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide is spread throughout the body which is the main cause of shortness of breathing or inconsistent breathing patterns when experiencing anxiety.
3. Trembling / Shaking
Another instance when anxiety activates the flight or fight response system within your body and impacts your body in a way, is when anxiety causes your body to tremble or shake. When feeling the sensation of anxiety your body can be triggered into the flight or fight system so substantially that your body can start to shake due to not only the rush of adrenaline within your body but also your body trying to prepare yourself for an incoming threat even if there isn’t one, your body shakes in order to be ready and able to react.
4. Increased Body Temperature / Sweaty
Similar to other symptoms that can be caused by anxiety, when a person body temperature is increased or the person starts to feel sweaty when experiencing anxiety its due to the flight or fight response being activated cause your heart to raise and blood to flow faster, cause an overall increase in your body temperature, and with this increase in your body temperature this can lead to being sweaty or having the feeling of hot flashes.
5. Feeling Dizziness / Lightheaded
Lastly when one or more symptoms are caused by anxiety such as any previously mentioned, it is common to have a feeling of dizziness or lightheadedness such as this a normal response when your body is overwhelmed or confused and does not know how to respond to all the symptoms a person is experiencing.
